DVJ Harischandra Gold Medal is donated by the Harischandra family in memory of late Dr D V J Harischandra, Consultant Psychiatrist. This medal is awarded to recognize the contribution of the regional psychiatrists who are serving the mental health needs of the said regions, and to promote further development of projects.

Eligibility criteria

1. Open to all psychiatrists serving in regional hospitals in Sri Lanka.
2. This award recognizes development of mental health services in the periphery in 2019.
3. Psychiatrists working in the following main teaching hospitals are not eligible to apply: National
Hospital of Sri Lanka, Lady Ridgeway Hospital for children, Colombo South Teaching
Hospital, Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Teaching Hospital Peradeniya, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Children’s hospital Peradeniya, Teaching Hospital Kandy, Teaching Hospital Karapitiya, National Institute of Mental Health,  Angoda.
4. The applicant should have completed at least one year in the station by 31 March 2020.
5. The winner will be required to do a presentation on the mental health service development at the Annual Academic Sessions.
6. Previous winners will not be eligible to apply during the period of three years after winning the award.

Instructions

A report outlining the work carried out by the applicant in provision and development of mental health services (hospital based and community services including public education activities) in 2018 should be submitted as a pdf file.
