SRI LANKA COLLEGE OF PSYCHIATRISTS

Ordinary Member

Any medical practitioner who has one or more of the qualifications listed below shall be eligible to be elected as an ordinary member. The annual fee for an ordinary member is Rs. 2,500 which should be paid annually.

Current criteria

Those who have qualified after 1987

1. A Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo; or
2. A person holding a degree equivalent to one of the above as decided by the Council

 Those who achieved the qualifications prior to and including 1986

1. A Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo; or
2. A Fellow or a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of United Kingdom, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, USA, New Zealand, Australia practising psychiatry in a manner acceptable to the council
3. A person holding a degree equivalent to one of the above as decided by the Council

Life Member

Any person eligible to be an ordinary member or any ordinary member may on the payment of a fee of Rs. 20,000 be eligible to be elected a life Member.

Associate Member

 A medical practitioner who is a graduate of a Medical School or University recognized by the Sri Lanka Medical Council and who is registered or qualified to be registered as a medical person under section 29 of the medical ordinance and has been successful in Selection  examination for MD Psychiatry or holds a diploma in Psychiatry shall be eligible for election as an associate member of the College for an annual fee of Rs. 1,000.

Such Associate Member will have no vote at a general meeting or an Annual General Meeting of the College or be entitled to hold office in the College.

Those who qualified after 1986 and who are not a Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry of the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo but are a Fellow or a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of the United Kingdom, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, USA, New Zealand, Australia practicing psychiatry in a manner acceptable to the Council, shall be eligible for associate membership.

Honorary Member

Any person who has made a significant contribution to mental health or the allied sciences shall on the recommendation of the Council be eligible to be elected an Honorary Member of the College.

Honorary Life Member

Any person who has made a significant contribution to mental health or the allied sciences may, on the recommendation of the Council, be elected an Honorary Life Member of the College

Honorary Fellows

Any person who is not eligible to be a member of the College but who has made an outstanding contribution to mental health may, by resolution of the Council, be elected an Honorary Fellow of the College.

Visiting Members

The Council may elect as a Visiting Member any member of the medical or allied professions who is a temporary resident of Sri Lanka.

Non-Resident Member

Any person, resident outside Sri Lanka for the time being, elected under these rules as a member of the College.

Fellows

Any life member or any Honorary Life Member who is in good standing and who satisfies the Council of special proficiency and distinction in the field of mental health, or has made a significant contribution to College activities, may by resolution be admitted by the Council as a Fellow of the College.
